Concepcion Dougherty

September 26, 1932 — May 6, 2021

Concepcion “Conchita” Dougherty of Webster, Texas, died on May 6, 2021 at the age of 88 years. Conchita was born on September 26, 1932, in Hidalgo, Texas, to John F. and Guadalupe C. Dougherty. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Frank (Amalia), Guadalupe (Bea), John (Marcela), James (Guadalupe), Jesse (Concepcion), and Rafael (Consuelo) and sisters Maria (Roberto), Anita (Paul), and Manuela. She is survived by brother-in-law Gonzalo Quezada, numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members. She was a devout Catholic and a lifetime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hidalgo.

Conchita graduated from McAllen High School and was employed at McClellan’s in downtown McAllen until her retirement. It was at McClellan’s where when asked for free samples of roasted nuts, her standard reply was “We freshly ran out!”

Conchita was an ardent fan of the Dallas Cowboys. She loved casino trips, comic books, and her collection of baseball cards. She made a mean potato salad! Conchita never met a stranger and in her retirement enjoyed entertaining family and friends.

For many years, she dedicated her life to caring for her mother and in turn, during her twilight years, was herself cared for by her dedicated team of nieces, Vicky, Sally, Peggy, and great-niece Anthea. For the past six years, Conchita resided at Regency Village in Webster where she was well-loved by staff who appreciated her joyful spirit, sense of humor, and ever-present smile.

Conchita was a loving daughter, aunt, and loyal friend. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. The family wishes to extend their thanks to the staff at Regency Village for their exemplary care of “Aunt Connie.”
