November 20, 1923 - April 6, 2018

Jeanne Sherman passed away on April 6, 2018. Her beloved husband of 70 years, musician Ray Sherman, recently passed away in September 2022. Jeanne is survived by her daughters Susan (Gordon) Youngs, Nancy (David) Estrada and Wendy Sherman (James Scott), as well as two granddaughters, two grandsons, and five great-grandchildren, with one more on the way. In addition to being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Jeanne spent 27 years as a teaching assistant in Los Angeles and Palmdale, CA.

Jeanne was born in New York and moved to California in the early 1940’s where she attended UCLA and performed in local theater productions. During WWII Jeanne served in the Navy as a Hospital Apprentice in the San Diego area. In 1947 Jeanne married Ray and settled in Woodland Hills, CA where they raised their family.

Jeanne worked as a pre-school teacher and then served as teaching assistant in several Los Angeles area schools. Jeanne also taught in the "Children's Center” at the Idyllwild School of Music and the Arts in the summer program during the late 1960’s and early 1970’s.

In the late 1970’s Jeanne and Ray moved to Palmdale where Jeanne served in the Palmdale School District. Upon retirement, Jeanne began volunteer work with the Antelope Valley Indian Museum, logging over 6,000 volunteer hours. She served on the Board and as a docent, conducting tours and presenting programs on American Indian culture to Antelope Valley and Los Angeles area schools, during the 1980’s and 1990’s. Jeanne was recognized as Volunteer of the Year by the League of California State Park Non-Profit Organizations in the late 1990’s.

Jeanne will rest in peace together with her husband Ray at the Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Blvd., Riverside, CA 92518
