It is with deep sorrow and love that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Raquel Santiago, who passed away peacefully of natural causes at the age of 97 in Edinburg, Texas.
Born on August 22, 1927, in Brooklyn, New York, Raquel faced early hardship when she lost her parents in an accident and was adopted at a young age. Despite life’s early challenges, she lived a life defined by strength, grace, and an unwavering devotion to her family.
At the age of 18, she married the love of her life, Ramon Inocencio Morales. Together, they raised two children, Adelina Morales and Raymond Morales. After Ramon’s untimely passing when she was just 35, Raquel moved to Puerto Rico to be closer to family, where she built a new life in Ponce. There, she worked for 18 years at Catholic University, where she was admired for her dedication and kindness.
In her later years, she moved in with her daughter Adelina to help raise her beloved grandchildren, Kristy and Rey. In 2022, she relocated with them to Edinburg, Texas, where she spent her final years surrounded by love and laughter.
Raquel will be remembered for her warmth, her gentle spirit, and the love she poured into everything she did. She had a passion for gardening, embroidery, crafting, and caring for her dogs, all of which brought her immense joy and peace.
She is survived by her devoted daughter Adelina, her cherished grandchildren Kristy and Rey, and her extended family who loved her deeply.
Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched and the family she helped shape with her enduring love and strength. She will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.
